Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX Review – A Superb Headset For Your Switch

Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max

The Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset from Turtle Beach is superb overall. It works as both a Bluetooth device and through the dongle as it can play games on your Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox, PS4, and PS5 systems. Even mobile games can work with this thing. The audio quality also sets the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX with deep bass and decent surround sound. Unfortunately, there are some issues that should have been fixed in the process.

How Does The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX Feel?

As a big-headed man, most headsets struggle to fit my frame. They also break easily as they often stretch. However, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX feels very solid with a thick frame. I can feel rest assured that this headset won’t break for at least another year from now.

Turtle Beach has claimed that this headset has Aerofit cooling gel-infused ear cushions. The company says it helps “keep you cool and comfortable while playing.” For the most part that is true, but during hot weather, I still feel warm around the ears and the top of my head; I felt much better after putting in some earphones instead of the thick headset.

In addition, with the big head I have, my ears have felt some tension with the cushions after three to four hours of use. I’d expect if you have a smaller frame, you should have an easier time.

More often than not, glasses users struggle wearing headsets. They clash with the frame or tend to slide out. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX makes it comfortable if you play games or work with your glasses. The glasses will stay in place, and it barely feels like there’s a material covering them.

Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX Usability

For the most part, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX connects to your Nintendo Switch and other systems very well with the USB dongle. However, while using the PC, I had to reconnect the USB dongle once after turning the headset back on to get the tech to connect.

Most of the time, however, on the Nintendo Switch, I didn’t get these issues and got straight into a game of Splatoon 3 or Xenoblade Chronicles 3. You can also connect to the Nintendo Switch using the Bluetooth function.

If you’re in an online game, you may want to use voice chat. While not immediately obvious at first, you can instantly turn on your mic by flipping it out from its initial folded scheme. It’s easy to bring out and is a seamless process.

What isn’t seamless, however, is the lack of a mute button. There’s no way to quickly mute the microphone in case a family member comes crashing into your room or you need to hide some personal information from someone. Flicking the microphone up to its initial position, however, is a way to mute yourself but it’s not instinctual to do that in a break-of-the-moment situation.

What makes up for the lack of a mute button is how fast it charges and how long it lasts. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX lasts around 40 hours, and you can get a lot of playtime with it with just a few hours of charging. It has a USB-C input, so it will be easy to find the cables for it. For the premium price of the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX, it would have been nice to get a longer cable, so you can use the headset while playing. Unfortunately, the one included is fairly short.

How Does The Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX Sound?

Overall, the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX sounds amazing. From the Nintendo Switch, I heard the voices of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 cast perfectly. They are crisp and easy to understand. While most games on the Nintendo Switch don’t support the surround sound capabilities of the headset, the calming sounds of the atmosphere and the beautiful soundtrack of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 really pull you into the world with the Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX.

In a competitive shooter like Fortnite or maybe Call of Duty MW2 on the PS5, you’ll be able to hear the footsteps in a thorough manner and know exactly where gunfire is coming from. It can be a real advantage in the game as opposed to using $10 headphones from Walmart.

While Turtle Beach does claim there is lag-free wireless, I did have an occasional issue with my PC. If you’re just above the computer, there can be some instances of static you can hear. However, if you’re sitting on the couch with the USB dongle, the sound quality is perfect.

Overall Impressions

The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX headset, despite a few minor issues, is a superb headset. It has an impressive depth of bass and has some decent surround sound. The headset is hardy, yet comfortable with soft cushioning. And finally, connecting the device to your Nintendo Switch is easy to figure out, especially with the dongle. It is an expensive headset but it’s high quality, and if you have more than a Switch, it’s highly adaptable.
