Nightmarish twin-stick shoot’em up Never Awake begins Nintendo Switch pre-orders
Jason covered the news of Never Awake‘s Switch Port back in September 2021 when it was announced Asobu Indie Showcase ahead of an original June 2022 release date.
Clearly the timeline has moved backwards somewhat since then but the developers had quite a good excuse: the Steam version of the game which they were busy working on secured a spot in the Top 40 best reviewed Steam games of 2022.
The game, which will now release on Thursday the 19th of January, has been critically acclaimed with multiple award nominations and winning the VERMILION GATE AWARD – Grand Prize.
Your play a girl, REM, that is unable to wake up from a deep sleep and in order to free her you have to defeat a whole host of quite unusual enemies. From dentists, to mean friends and even vegetables. REM presumably represents good sleep and these enemies the anxieties that prevent it.
The game features fast paced 360 degree shooting, new guns unlocked by collecting “souls” all complimented by beautiful hand-drawn graphics and animations.
A premium physical edition for Switch with original art book, soundtrack CD and magnetic hook is to be released at a later date.
