Next Level Games Has Been Acquired by Nintendo

Nintendo today acquired the long-term partner studio, Next Level Games, the studio behind games such as Luigi’s Mansion 3, Super Mario Strikers, and Metroid Prime: Federation Force. After collecting 100% of the shares, Nintendo announced today that the company will become a subsidiary and the deal will conclude in March 2021.

Nintendo’s announcement says the deal “will serve to secure the availability of Next Level Games development resources for Nintendo.” That sounds like we may be getting a new Super Mario Strikers game for the Switch or the next Nintendo console!

The Canadian development team has been working alongside Nintendo strongly since 2005 and have been responsible for the Super Mario Striker series, reviving Luigi’s Mansion, and even remaking Punch-Out!! on the Wii back in 2009.

This is a great acquisition for Nintendo, and it will be exciting to see what the Big N does with Next Level Games moving forward. Most likely we will be getting more Luigi’s Mansions, but I am curious to see the team go a different direction as well.
