Gimmighoul is one of the new Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but his evolution, Gholdengo, is confusing some players. Revealed earlier this month in Pokemon GO, the tiny and gold-hungry Pokemon is an adorable little guy with two forms: the Chest Form and the Roaming Form.
In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Gimmighoul is in the Chest Form, but how do you evolve it into Gholdengo? Well, let me help you out!
How to Evolve to Gholdengo?
Gimmighoul’s Pokedex entry reads, “This Pokemon was born inside a treasure chest about 1,500 years ago. It sucks the life-force out of scoundrels who try to steal the treasure.”
This hints at its desires, which center around gold/money, so the trick in order to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo has something to do with the money you are carrying. Gholdengo’s Pokedex entry is a dead giveaway:
“Its body seems to be made up of 1,000 coins. This Pokemon gets along well with others and is quick to make friends with anybody.”
Hiding within the Pokedex entry, Gimmighoul requires the player to have 999 coins in order to evolve. “Well, that’s odd. Pokemon doesn’t use gold coins for its currency.” That is correct, so this evolution needs to go a different route!
Gimmighoul is unique in that the gold coins only apply to this particular Pokemon, and in order to collect them, you have to battle or catch Gimmighouls in the wild. The best places to do this is in towers scattered around Paldea. It’s random, but the Chest Form Gimmighoul can spawn in these towers, and they will reward 50 gold coins when defeated in battle.
Defeat enough Gimmighoul to collect 999 gold coins and initiate the evolution into Gholdengo!
