You may have forgotten, but a Genshin Impact Switch version was actually announced all the way back on January 14, 2020. “Open-world ARPG game Genshin Impact will come to Nintendo Switch in the future,” the official YouTube description on the Genshin Impact channel says. “So far, Genshin Impact is expected to be available on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS and Android.”

If you don’t know what Genshin Impact is, it’s a very popular MMO-style game that has you exploring a stunning, beautiful anime-esque world. You have the powers of air, earth, fire, ice, and most recently, grass in Genshin Impact. The game also supports crossplay, so whenever a Genshin Impact Switch version finally arrives, you can play the game in co-op with your PlayStation, mobile, and PC friends.

As of May 2022, we know that the Genshin Impact Switch port has not been canceled, thanks to a GoNintendo report.

“The Switch version is still in development, and we will release more information as we progress further along,” said the Genshin Impact team to GoNintendo. Perhaps, we may hear more during The Game Awards, where the developer MiHoYo has been present for years now.

Is Genshin Impact Worth The Hassle?

To put it simply, Genshin Impact would be worth the wait if it ever comes out. Despite major gacha-based microtransactions like characters and weapons, Genshin Impact is free-to-play with major story content and stunning graphics to boot.

It plays similarly to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as you explore each area, find its collectibles, and climb buildings/mountains. It’s not as great as BOTW, but for free, it’s pretty damn close as your elemental powers deeply affect the combat and world interaction.
